So Sustainable

With Earth Hour and World Water Day around the corner, what better time is there to celebrate sustainability? So, we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite sustainable brands, activities and restaurants that are hot right now.

Earth Hour

Individuals, businesses, restaurants – you name it – are fighting for #ChangeClimateChange by turning off their lights for an hour between 8.30pm and 9.30pm this Saturday, 19th March. It’s such an easy thing to get involved in, because all you have to do is turn off your lights for an hour. Why not use it as an excuse to get together and host a fundraising candlelit dinner with your family and friends and you can get a starter pack from WWF! What’s more, this year WWF-UK is focusing on food as the topic, ‘Sustainable Food for a Sustainable Planet’ – how appropriate! Find out more here.

Belu Water

Our lovely partner, Belu Water is a brand that we should all be getting more involved with. They are WaterAid’s exclusive partner and give them 100% of their profits. To date they have donated over £1.5 million,  transforming the lives of over 100,000 people. And that’s just their charitable side… They are also incredibly sustainable; they use only recycled glass to bottle their water. So, next time you see Belu Water in a supermarket, opt for that one. It may be a bit more expensive, but there’s a reason why. We think what they do is fabulous, and you can buy their water in all of our bars & restaurants.

World Water Day

On the subject of water… it’s World Water Day next Tuesday, 22nd March. Find out more about how you can get involved in your own way this year here. Everyone is encouraged to wear blue to show a united front on highlighting the importance of water, and what an easy way to show awareness. That’s one evening we don’t have to spend deciding on what to wear the next day.

Positive Luxury

Another extraordinary brand that we are honoured to be partners with is Positive Luxury. They recognise and empower businesses that actively contribute to protecting the planet’s resources. Positive Luxury distinguishes these businesses with an interactive symbol – The Butterfly Mark – as brands to trust. We at Drake & Morgan are very proud to be one of these brands, see what they have to say about us. You can see which other brands other brands carry The Butterfly Mark here.

Sustainable Restaurant Association

Having Raymond Blanc as its president says it all. The SRA is an uber sustainable, but seriously cool, organisation that offers both advisory services and accreditation – Food Made Good – to restaurants that pass their Sustainability Rating. They focus on 14 key areas of sustainability under three headings: sourcing, society and environment. Do your bit by eating out at restaurants that are recognised as sustainable by the SRA – what an arduous task! They’ve made it super easy for you to search their directory – have a look here. Sustainability is very important to us here at Drake & Morgan and you can find us on the SRA catalogue.

Tiny Leaf

We’ve got to applaud Tiny Leaf for becoming London’s first ZERO WASTE, vegetarian restaurant. Tiny Leaf focuses on organic surplus food stock supplied by every one from supermarkets to local plant breeders. There is a ground floor bistro, 2 botanical cocktail bars and 3 private hire rooms. You can eat there for breakfast, lunch and dinner and can try dishes such as courgette with almond pesto, Greek basil and flaked almonds or their daily-changing seasonal buckwheat risotto. Check out the full menu here. Find it at Bumpkin, 209 Westbourne Park Road, Notting Hill.
