January Jaunts

It’s our last blog before Christmas, and though we would never wish it away we couldn’t leave without our usual little round up of what we’re excited about in January. Have a read of some of the excitements to start 2017 and have a very happy Christmas and New Year!

Eat

Save the pennies with our January Set Menus

Just because we need to tighten our purse strings after the festive period, doesn’t mean we want to sit at home all month. At The Otherist and The Pagination you can enjoy a gorgeous set menu featuring some of our most popular dishes at super reasonable prices. With two courses for £16 and 3 courses for £20 tuck into the likes of mushroom bruschetta followed by grilled salmon with pecan crunch and lemon and finish with a pecan tart with vanilla ice cream. For the full menu and to book email info@theotherist.co.uk or info@thepagination.co.uk.

At Duck Duck goose

Coming to South London’s Pop Brixton in January, Duck Duck Goose will bring a Cantonese canteen inspired by the plethora of meat stalls that line the streets of Hong Kong. Think whole steamed fish, creative dishes from the wok and of course the Cantonese BBQ which specialises in, yes you guessed it, duck and goose 😉 Pop Brixton is well acclaimed for its food offering and the brainchild of chef Oli Brown, Duck Duck Goose is sure to add to the reputation.

Drink

Seasonal Special Cocktails

Our newest London restaurants are not only offering a set food menu but they’ve also created a special drinks menu to keep those January blues at bay. At The Pagination go for the Ginger & Raspberry with Hendrick’s Gin, ginger beer, Crème de Fraise de Bois, raspberries and lime juice. At The Otherist our pick of the bunch has got to be the Spiced Mule with Grey Goose Vodka, seasonal spiced syrup, ginger beer and lemon juice – just to keep the festive spirit going as long as possible!

At Six Storeys on Soho

Now this is a really exciting new bar that is sure to become a destination venue in Soho. As the name suggests Six Storeys on Soho has 6 floors each of which is completely unique in design and offering. From ‘The Lobby Bar’ serving vintage cocktails and extensive wines to the most stylish floor ‘The Loft’ boasting stunning views over Soho Square and the West End. Exuding opulence, some of the floors are available for private hire only, and the venue can be hired by floor or as a whole. With some fabulous menus also on offer, this is definitely one for your list.

See

The Winter Lights in Canary Wharf

Between 4-9pm every day from Monday 16th to Friday 27th January, ‘Winter Lights’ returns make the lights of Canary Wharf even brighter. 30 awe-inspiring installations, artworks and interactive experiences from a variety of international artists will be on show for all to see. A highlight has got to be the ‘Angels of Freedom’ that, using photography and social media, allows visitors to ‘transform’ into angels. See the full program of events right here.

Celebrate the Year of the Rooster

London Chinese New Year celebrations are the biggest outside Asia so it’s only fair that it gets a mention on things for January’s to do list! Taking place on 28th Jan but usually celebrated on 29th, get stuck into the various revelries across London. Apart from anything else it’s the best excuse you’ll get to tuck into a lot of Chinese food and that is not to be sniffed at!

Do

Celebrate Burns night

Getting a day named after you is something of an achievement, and fair play to Robbie Burns as he was a right rascal, and a very talented poet. This year, now that we’ve opened The Refinery St Andrew Square, we’re particularly excited about it and getting stuck into the celebrations – so if you happen to be in Edinburgh, or making the trip there especially for Burns night then come and have a dram with us in honour of the man himself. If you’re in London, there’s plenty of Burn’s Night Suppers to get involved in, or why not come and do a whisky masterclass in our #lovescotch pop up at The Drift?
