Sporting Summer

There’s a wave of patriotism going around the sporting world at the minute. We’re cruising in the test against Sri Lanka, we stormed through the Six Nations, and now, all eyes are on the Euros and beyond. Here’s the low down on the biggest sporting events this summer and where to watch them – you’re welcome!

Euros

10^th June – 10^th July

From the 10^th June, England will be kicking off their campaign to get as far through the tournament as possible. Everyone’s behind them and expecting big things, so fingers crossed they’ll do all right.

If there’s one sure fire way to enjoy the tournament, however, it’s to watch the games in style with a group of friends and muchos cocktails. Why not get a group together and book one of our private dining rooms all to yourselves (available at The Anthologist, The Folly, The Happenstance & Drake & Morgan at King’s Cross)? You can choose from our pre order menus which have everything from snacks & drinks to full 3 courses. Alternatively, the majority of our bars & restaurants will be playing the games – sans sound – in the main bars.

A genius concept that has come into fruition in time for the Euros, and has got to be mentioned, is the Hyundai Fan Dome. Experience the games through new immersive technology through a world-first live reactive 360 degree audio-visual experience. And as if that wasn’t enough, actor and former Wales international player Vinnie Jones has been taken on by Hyundai to get involved. Oh and another thing, the Fan Dome is in Lewis Cubitt Square, right around the corner from Drake & Morgan at King’s Cross.

Monday 20^th June, 8pm: England v Slovakia

Wimbledon

27^th June – 10^th July

If your sporting taste is a little more refined, you might find that relaxing on a deck chair with a glass of Pimms and watching the tennis on the big screen is more your style. If this is the case, head over to The Refinery Bankside’s Great British Summer pop up and be transported to the beaches of Havana, courtesy of Bacardi, while you cheer on Murray to what could be (fingers crossed) another British victory.

The Refinery and The Parlour even have a special pudding dedicated to Wimbledon and available throughout, so make sure to order the Queen of the Court when you come in! The Refinery has an outdoor Peroni bar and a pop up Bacardi Bar that will have its very own menu, so you don’t even need to go inside to order your drinks. Our screen will be up until the 31^st August so you can also enjoy watching the Olympics and other events with us.

If you want to be right near the action but can’t face Murray Mound, try the Rose and Crown on Wimbledon High Street, which has a marquee and big screens in its outdoor terrace every summer, with DJs and live music in the evenings to continue the party long after the tennis is over.

Rio Olympics

5^th – 21^st August

We don’t know about you, but for us the Olympics is something that wasn’t as important to us as the other major sporting event. Since we held it in 2012, however, the interest and excitement in the competition as a whole has flared up again, and we’re nearly as excited for this year’s in Rio as we were when it was here on our own turf.

To watch it in the best possible way, head over to Canada Square Park where the big screen is back showing everything from Wimbledon through to the Olympics. Indulge in our quintessentially British ‘bubbles & berries’ offer at the Parlour and watch from the comfort of our al fresco terrace. Or if you want to go really rustic, grab something to eat from our ‘food on the move guys’ at The Parlour and a drink to go from the outdoor bar, take it to the middle of the park and voila!
